Unquestionably it is Spanish red wine that is driving the winemaking revolution in Spain, with rising stars in Priorat, the Ribera del Duero, Penedes, Bierzo & other regions now challenging the illustrious bodegas of La Rioja for top spot on the Spanish wine scene. We work with some key producers you can see below – this is Spanish red wine at its finest!
Along the Ebro River Valley, the Mediterranean climate gifts the land with calmer weather, lending to fruity and elegant Tempranillo and Garnacha, most famous in Rioja, where these Spanish red wines can age for years to come. Producers like the López de Heredia family have devoted themselves (for 141 years) to producing exceptional and unique wines. Masterpieces which have achieved that which the founder of the company, Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, defined in the late nineteenth century as the "Supreme Rioja" - we are proud to feature these powerhouse wines!
Over in Priorat, a forgotten spread of land is now the home of the most vogueish and boutique fine wine region. Made of up of mostly Carignan and Garnacha, these big and bold Spanish red wines are filled with fruit and slate. Jancis Robinson has “long thought that a good priorat is one of the most obviously terroir-driven wines in the world.”
We are honoured to work with producers like Ester Nin, whose day job is being ‘the right hand’ of Daphne Glorian of legendary Clos I Terrasses in Priorat. Ester’s work, both for Clos Erasmus and her own property, is regularly awarded with scores in the high 90s from Robert Parker’s influential Wine Advocate. Vast and full of punchy character, Spanish red wines are the rising stars of Europe and are not to be overlooked.
