Like a phoenix from the ashes, the story of House Delaunay's revival attracted considerable attention and excitement back in 2017. We were confident that the House would live up to the hype, but they have even exceeded our wildest expectations for them!

The house of Delaunay, founded in 1893, has a prestigious history and was renowned as one of the exclusive distributors of DRC (Domaine de la Romanée-Conti) and La Romanée until the 1940s. In the 1990s, it was sold to Jean Claude Boisset. However, in 2017, winemaker and fifth-generation family member Laurent Delaunay repurchased the name, winery, and cellars adjacent to the family home, Château de Chaumont, leading to the revival of the maison.

Laurent was confirmed as President of the BIVB (Burgundy Wine Board) in 2023.  Wines produced include a focus on different 1er crus in Nuits Saint Georges, as well as Corton-Charlemagne, Clos Vougeot and Chambertin Grand Crus. As such we feel especially privileged to work so closely with Laurent, where we have been able to offer Club Members shares in barrels of Hospice de Beaune & Nuits elaborated by Delaunay, alongside exclusive 1er Crus and other superb Burgundies.

The Wine

Under Laurent Delaunay's stewardship, the wines of House Delaunay have soared to great heights. Their remarkable 2019 vintage garnered significant attention and accolades, particularly at the IWC 2020 awards, where they emerged as the biggest winner. Laurent was more recently awarded IWC Red Winemaker of the Year 2024. The Maison's haul of trophies at the IWC 2024 included Champion Red Wine, Best International Pinot Noir, Best French Red, Best Burgundy Red and Best Chambertin for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2021.

Delaunay's wines have also been highly praised by Club Members and the Honest Grapes team, who have been enjoying Laurent's creations throughout the year. With their commitment to excellence and remarkable vineyard sources, House Delaunay has regained its prominence in the world of Burgundy wines.
