Founded in 1893, Maison Delaunay quickly became one of Burgundy’s most respected names — even acting as distributor for domaines like DRC and exclusively for La Romanée up until the 1940s. After the name was sold in the 1990s, the story came full circle in 2017 when fifth-generation winemaker Laurent Delaunay bought it back, along with the winery and cellars beside the family home, Château de Chaumont. Laurent and his wife Catherine have since secured some brilliant vineyard parcels across the Côte d’Or, from Petit-Vougeots all the way to Griotte-Chambertin.
Today, the range spans everything from humble yet characterful Aligoté to serious Grand Cru, and the wines have earned consistent praise from critics and our own Club Members alike. With strong vineyard sources and a clear focus on quality, Maison Delaunay has firmly reclaimed its place as one of Burgundy’s standout producers.
What the critics say:
"Two plots for 5 barrels, in the sectors Neuf Journaux and Petit Maupertui, the latter destemmed, the former retaining 50% stems. A little oak on the nose, but there is plenty of dark red fruit waiting to come out, lifted by the stem percentage. Raspberry, strawberry and pepper knit together. The mouth fills out very nicely and while there are tannins behind, they have ripened and just contribute as they should to the structure. Well made and appetising. "
"Although this wine is a bit restrained initially, the deep colour and the firmly tannic and structured texture hint at the longevity of this wine. It is thoroughly ripe, balanced and powerful, and should age well. There were six barrels produced in 2021; grapes came from two parcels: one-third from Petit Maupertuis at the top of the hill behind the chateau, and the balance from a plot between the Château and the Château de la Tour. The grapes from Petit Maupertuis were destemmed; the balance not."
