Amelie and Charles Sparr, a husband and wife duo, have an extraordinary tale akin to a modern-day Romeo and Juliet of the vine. Both hailing from esteemed wine families, their shared love for wine and the land it comes from brought them together. Combining deep-rooted traditions with a forward-looking approach, they now craft biodynamic wines that capture the essence of Alsace.
Charles, having noticed our appreciation for fellow winemakers Clemens Busch and Henri Giraud, reached out to us, introducing their own remarkable range of wines. After tasting their wines, it was clear that their talent and dedication were truly exceptional.
While the Sparr name has roots dating back to the 16th century in Alsace, it wasn't until 2017 that the Domaine was established. Since then, they have achieved remarkable success. We are confident that this domaine will soon be regarded among the region's greatest, and we are thrilled to have discovered them at such an early stage.
The Wine
Their vineyards consist of a combination of leased and owned land, all managed according to biodynamic practices and holding 'eco-cert' certification. Through generations of experience and support, Charles and Amelie meticulously tend to their vineyards, maximising the potential of each varietal and terroir.
Their Terroir La Grace Pinot Noir stands out as one of the best examples we've encountered from Alsace, offering outstanding value. The trio of Riesling, Pinot Gris, and Gewurztraminer they produce showcase a perfect balance of richness, ripeness, and vibrant acidity. It's challenging to find wines of this calibre for such reasonable prices
