An exciting new addition to the portfolio, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is a fascinating revival of an old Burgundy domaine based around the eponymous, historic Volnay 1er Cru Monopole Clos de la Chapelle. Even trailblazing chemist Louis Pasteur was a huge fan back in the 1800s, placing a regular order for several dozen bottles of Clos de la Chapelle for his personal enjoyment.

Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Château de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.

We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these sumptuous wines.

The Wine

The Domaine owns only 1.5 hectares in Volnay, Pommard, Meursault, Corton, Pernand-Vergelesses and the recent addition of a small parcel in Beaune. Winemaking is classically Burgundian, with a small production of a few hundred cases of each cuvee and total annual production of just 1500 cases. The Domaine is certified organic and follows biodynamic principles in the winery and vineyard.

The flagship wine is the Monopole 1er Cru Clos de la Chapelle, which is one of Volnay’s legendary vineyards adjacent to Clos de la Bousse d’Or (it’s speculated that it may have one day been part of it). Other highlights include a magical Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru and the Pommard Les Chanlins 1er Cru, though make no mistake; any wine bearing the stamp of Clos de la Chapelle is going to be excellent! We are hugely excited by these wines and cannot wait to share them with you.
