Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle, 2023

"5 barrels, without crushing before pressing, one will be kept back for a longer elevage. Quite a deep yellow. The bouquet is very different to Pierre Meurgey’s Corton-Charlemagne (more or less the same fruit but some was crushed), the Clos de la Chapelle version offering more precision but less character. This version has a steely backbone, some ripe citrus, a little flesh, medium tension, apples at the back. Just needs a little more tension for the 4th star. Tasted Oct 2024."

"Enough wood influence to remark upon frames an equally beautifully layered nose of Granny Smith apple, white flower, anise and a plentitude of citrus elements. Here too there is fine volume to the punchy and decidedly powerful broad-shouldered flavors that exude evident minerality on the youthfully austere, compact and built-to-age finale. This is also pretty tightly wound and in need of better depth so at least 5 to 7 years of keeping are strongly advised."
