Resurrected by life-long Burgundy lover Mark O’Connell in 2011 and our dear friend Pierre Meurgey, Domaine Clos de la Chapelle is headquartered at the Chateau de Bligny, owned by Pierre and no less than Dominique Lafon. The talent behind the new Domaine is considerable, and the wines are already getting rave reviews from the likes of Allen Meadows (Burghound), Neal Martin & Jasper Morris.
We were so impressed by the wines after tasting the 2022s and were surprised to hear that they had little presence in the UK, so it is a real pleasure to offer these wines.
"Another "Tête de Cuvée" for Clos de la Chapelle according to Lavalle’s classification, this is still today decidedly one of Volnay’s very finest sites. Leroy, Jacques Prieur and Comtes Lafon also have holdings. Bright robe, deeply spicy, lightly charry nose, raspberry and griddled red plum at core, with cedar, stone dust, and iris notes and hints of smoked pancetta, cumin, dry bark, green peppercorns and roasted rosemary. This would make rather a sophisticated cologne. Attack is succulent displaying riper berry fruits than the nose with waves of spicy, inky, smoky fruit cascading over the mid-palate, drawn by long, energetic tannins that ensure precision and length."

What the critics say:
"New in 2022. A fine and lively purple. The nose suggests an exciting quality without giving detail yet. Excellent intensity, as befits Santenots-du-Milieu, all in a vivid dark raspberry fruit, good acidity and persistent. Very promising and needs a lot more elevage. Drink from 2030-2037. Tasted: October 2023. ****."
"A slightly riper nose features a layered blend of various dark berries and an array of floral elements, especially violet. There is both good volume and focused power to the larger-scaled mineral-inflected flavors that conclude in a dusty, firm and robust finale. This too could use better depth but that is also just a matter of sufficient bottle aging. Very promising. *Outstanding* 2034+"
