The negociant wing of our good friend Pierre Meurgey, Meurgey-Croses makes a lovely range of well-selected wines from the Macon and Chablis. In Pierre’s words the emphasis here is on “precious, purity and freshness”, with less aging on oak than for the wines bottled under his own name, and the portfolio wines always drink exceptionally well from release.
Pierre is a genius winemaker working on a number of projects, including Domaine Clos de la Chapelle, and his skill in selecting incredible fruit from the Macon and then in vinification is superb.
The Wine
The Meurgey-Croses represents excellent value for money, and our favourites include the vibrant Viré-Clessé Vielles Vignes ("well-worth seeking out" according to Neal Martin), his lovely Pouilly-Fuissé and the Macon Uchizy.
