"Complex soils of marl with Oligocene pink tones, topped by a shallow clay-limestone layer. Dense, compact fruit with firmer tannins at this stage, lending seriousness and ageing potential."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Always a pleasure to visit this Vosne-Romanée stalwart, whose holdings remain the closest in spirit and geography to the original Gros family estate, founded in 1830. Today the domaine spans 23 hectares, including the Clos des Réas, the only Premier Cru monopole in Vosne. All wines are fully destemmed, giving a clear through-line of purity, density and finely polished tannins across the range. Since 2022, the domaine has taken full control of its Grand Cru parcels, with significant replanting using massale selection and increased vine density.
Yields in 2024 were sharply reduced, contributing to the concentration and intensity seen throughout the reds.
What the critics say:
"Here too moderate wood is present on the cool and airy nose of plum, black raspberry, exotic tea and a pretty array of spice elements. Like the Brûlées, the middle weight flavors aren't especially dense but they're almost as seductive and a bit more refined as well if less powerful and less mineral-driven on the lingering finale that is shaped by fine-grained tannins."
