Here at Honest Grapes, we are consistently impressed with Michel Gros’ truly impressive collection of ready to drink wines.
Domaine Michel Gros, a name deeply ingrained in the winemaking legacy of Vosne-Romanée. For nearly two centuries, the Gros family has played a significant role in cultivating vines and crafting exceptional wines that capture the essence of the region.
Since 1830, the Gros family has been a cornerstone of Vosne-Romanée. Michel Gros, along with his sisters Anne and Anne-Francoise, as well as his brother Bernard, represents the esteemed sixth generation of this remarkable lineage. Michel's son Pierre has now transitioned from his career as an engineer to fully dedicate himself to the family estate, facilitating a seamless handover from father to son. Committed to maintaining the estate's tradition of excellence, Pierre prioritises consistency and quality in their wines.
Central to Michel Gros's offerings is the revered 2.12-hectare Clos des Réas. This Premier Cru monopole in Vosne-Romanée has been under the family's stewardship since 1860, nestled just a short distance from La Tâche. Its significance is undeniable, and the meticulous attention given to its vines yields wines of distinctive character.
The Wine
Michel Gros's winemaking philosophy centres on honouring tradition while embracing modern practices. Low yields, handpicked grapes, total destemming, and minimal racking all contribute to the unique style that defines his wines. The result is a collection that is supple, seductive, and adorned with captivating heady and ripe aromas.
Domaine Michel Gros's vineyards carry the stories of Vosne-Romanée. From their cherished Clos des Réas to other parcels that dot the landscape, each plot bears the imprint of the soil and the region's climatic nuances.
