First we have a ‘baby Super Tuscan’. The term refers to wines made from French grapes in Tuscany like Sassicaia which sell for hundreds of pounds but Tom has unearthed this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec and a native variety Ancelotta which you could drink everyday. The 2022 vintage of Castello Sonnino Leone Rosso is everything I want in a jolly Italian red - think bittersweet cherries and refreshing tang; it’s the perfect spaghetti carbonara sort of wine. He’s knocked nearly a pound off for Critic readers, £14 a bottle (£84 for a six bottle case)."
