Tenuta San Guido is named after the Saint Guido della Gherardesca who lived during the XI century. It is located on the Tyrrhenian coast, between Leghorn and Grosseto in Maremma and It stretches for 13 km from the sea to the hills.
The Sangiovese grapes originally destined for the second wine Guidalberto are now used in San Guido’s (Sassicaia's) third wine which is 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Sangiovese. Le Difese is named after the teeth of the wild boar which roam the Tuscan hills.
What the critics say:
"Very aromatic and bright with strawberry, cherry and currant character. Hints of oranges. Full-bodied, linear and tight, showing ultra-fine tannins. Potential here."
"The 2016 Le Difese is a gorgeous entry-level wine from Tenuta San Guido. A lovely sense of translucence runs through the black cherry, plum, lavender and mint flavors. I can't remember a Difese with this much sheer finesse and class. "
