Solengo is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Petit Verdot and 5% Sangiovese, marrying the structure and polish of Bordeaux varieties with unmistakable Tuscan warmth. Even on release it’s irresistibly appealing, offering layers of ripe, plummy fruit, a subtle touch of spice and finely honed, silky tannins that give shape and poise.

The 2016 vintage is outstanding in Tuscany, combining freshness, balance and depth with real ageing potential. While Solengo is generous early on, time in the cellar is rewarded: at full maturity it comfortably stands alongside the finest Super Tuscans, often echoing the refinement of a top classed-growth Bordeaux, but always with a distinctly Italian accent.

What the critics say:

99/100James Suckling

"Very complex aromas of fresh flowers, blackberries and black licorice follow through to a full body, integrated tannins and a long and linear finish. Focused and racy. The tannins are so polished. Better in 2022, but already such a joy to try."

95+/100Monica Larner, Wine Advocate

"A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (50%), Petit Verdot (25%), Merlot (20%) and Sangiovese (5%), the 2016 Solengo is a terrific wine and I enjoyed my sample down to the very last drop that I coaxed from the bottle with happy enthusiasm. This is a full-bodied red (but not in an exaggerated manner) with plump and fruit-forward aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, plum, spice and sweet tobacco. The wine is balanced with excellent depth and mouthfeel momentum. I highly recommend this wine from both the 2015 and 2016 vintages, which are both terrific."

OUR GROWERS

Tenuta di Argiano

Argiano is one of the oldest and most beautiful estates in Montalcino (and was one of the members of the original Brunello Consorzio).

Although the estate is situated in the south of the region which tends to be several degrees warmer than vineyards to the north, the vineyards achieve good elevation and comprise a high percentage of the mineral-rich marl in their clay limestone soil, also found in the hill of Montosoli – Montalcino’s widely accepted “Grand Cru” site.
