The 2023 white wines from Delaunay are beautifully drinkable, offering an easy elegance. Unlike the larger, richer 2022 vintage, 2023 returns to a classic size with a well-balanced acidity, not too high or low. This vintage avoided the intense heat of 2020 and 2022, allowing for a more natural acidity that didn’t degrade during ripening. With record-high yields in both red and white, the wines display a lighter but more elegant profile compared to the previous year's concentration. In particular, the whites show an impressive balance of fresh acidity and racy minerality, with no chaptalisation needed.
"Sourced from the Les Corvées de Vigne plot, which borders both Meursault and Puligny. This wine combines the best of both terroirs – minerality from Puligny and bright fruit from Meursault. Elegantly balanced, silky, and seductive, it promises to be a standout when it’s bottled."
Our note
Overall, the 2023 vintage is a welcome surprise, offering a balance of power and elegance. With a focus on terroir expression, the wines show great ageing potential and freshness, with no over-ripeness or dilution. The whites are bright, fresh, and pure, while the reds show refinement and elegance, with a good structure for future ageing. While some of the wines are still developing, there is much to look forward to in the coming years.
What the critics say:
"Formidable tension and if you've ever grown irises you will know exactly what I mean when I say that this wine smells and tastes like orris root – it's the smell and taste that floods your body when you divide the rhizomes up in autumn. It's suede and violets, musk and pepper, tea and wet loam. Talc (and talc texture). If ever there was a white wine trying to be a red wine, it's this wine. Do not let 'Le Village' make you underestimate this wine."
"From one plot in La Corvée des Vignes. Six barrels made of which two are new, just racked. Pale primrose in colour with some fresh energy, spring flowers. A little lemon and lime too. This has quite some body to it, with significant energy. This works extremely well in 2023, a Puligny with character which expresses the appellation very well. Drink from 2028-2032. Tasted Nov 2024 ****"
