Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru 'Sous Frétille', Domaine Rapet Père & Fils, 2022
Pernand-Vergelesses Premier Cru 'Sous Frétille', Domaine Rapet Père & Fils, 2022
- White Still
- Chardonnay
Domaine Rapet Père Et Fils' lineage can be traced back to at least 1765 thanks to a dated, silver tastevin much treasured by the family.
Rapet is one of the most ancient families of the Côte D’Or and the estate is now under the control of Vincent Rapet and his charming wife Sylvette who manage the 20 hectares with skill and a keen eye to nature. Based in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, Domaine Rapet’s vineyards lie on and around the hill of Corton.
Drinking window: 2025 - 2034
What the critics say:
"Referred to by some as the 'Petite Charlemagne', Sous Fretille is an outlier, like the hill of Corton itself, with the same Pernand marl and underlying limestone; the south-facing slopes are premier cru. The seventy-year-old vines produced a lovely wine in 2022 with the crisp snap of citrus up front and hints of delicate white flowers and salty minerality. The texture has plenty of tension and liveliness, but richness is not lacking, and the wine lingers beautifully on the palate."
"Rapet made no wine from this site in 2021 because of the frost. The domaine has two parcels, one on either side of the hill, so one faces east, the other, west. The rock is just 16–20 inches (40–50cm) below the topsoil, and their old vines, planted in the 1960s, dig deep into the white clay. Zesty, lemony intensity combines well with the smooth, silky minerality. There’s sunny and elegant stretch on the palate, to a sweet and saline finish. 2026–32."
