Owned and run by the Ripaccioli family for 56 years, this rising star practices classic Montalcino traditionalism with a minimalist approach to winemaking. They produce quintessential Brunello on a small scale in the north on Montosoli hill, which is known for its high altitude and silt clay and marl soil dotted with limestone and gravel. The production from this area is synonymous with sumptuously smooth and elegant wines, delicate minerality, longevity and striking aromatics.
Though no official classification system is in place, Montosoli is regarded a Grand Cru area of Montalcino. Le Gode’s minimal intervention methodology contributes to the pure expression of Sangiovese from this iconic terroir and delivers a resulting freshness that lends structure and finesse. Their Brunello di Montalcinos are aged in Slavonian oak for three years and then six months in French oak before spending up to 8 months in bottle.
The Ripaccioli family recommends a glass of this before any important decision, a recommendation we take very seriously!
"After the unfettered power of the 2017 the 2018 surprises for its more herbal restraint - juniper, cracked pepper and sandalwood, and briary berry fruits. Mocha notes, black plums, tobacco, tapenade and wood polish, more ripe cherries emerge as the wine opens and dark mint chocolate. The attack is dryly rich, and fans out around a core of spicy, peppery plum and berry fruit, tannins have a pleasingly crisp, salty succulence and there is bright acidity too. the finish shows more herbal sweet fruit. Overall this is an impressively rich and complete interpretation of the vintage, and one for mid term+ drinking. OR at least a decent decant if you are thirsty..."

What the critics say:
"Like chiseling through an ashen stone to find a core of black raspberry preserves, balsamic spice and dried roses, the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna Montosoli makes itself known. It glides across the palate with a stimulating mix of mineral-tinged wild berries and savory herbs contrasted by a hint of spiced citrus. This tapers off with a lingering concentration of fruit and framing tannins, as violet inner florals slowly fade. The Montosoli is powerful and built for the cellar, yet radiant as well. Very nice."
