Champagne Henri Giraud is the oldest Champagne house still owned by its founding family – the Giraud-Hémart family has farmed vines at Aÿ since 1625. However, it is only since current head Claude Giraud took over that the wines have been released under the family name. The flagship release is the rich, voluptuous Fût de Chêne, a Pinot Noir-dominant Champagne blend.
Henri Giraud Ésprit Nature Champagne is a totally new wine to the range replacing Esprit Brut. 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay. With 50% reserve wines matured in small casks made of oak from the forest of Argonne and in ovoid (egg-shaped) vats.
The Esprit meanwhile is crafted to the same, meticulous standards as Giraud's top cuvées, yet in a more approachable, forward style, and the latest release is absolutely stunning."

What the critics say:
"The creamy texture is so enticing on the palate, because it intentionally has slightly less bubbles, with light strawberry and brioche and a hint of tangerine. Medium body with a pretty core of fruit and a fine, velvety finish. Base wine all fermented in barrel. 30% reserve wine and the base is 2020. 80% pinot noir and 20% chardonnay. Drink now."
"The NV Esprit Nature is a fabulous introduction to this range. Creamy, open-knit and so expressive, the Esprit Nature captures all of the textural intensity that is such a Giraud signature, but in an approachable style. The Esprit Nature is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay done mostly in oak, with a bit of sandstone amphora. This release is based on 2017, 50% reserve wines. Readers should note that the ";Nature"; is used here as part of the wine name, rather than an indication of dosage, which is 6 grams per liter. Disgorged: October 21, 2020."
"Based on the 2017 vintage (complemented with some 50% from the house's perpetual reserve) and disgorged in January 2020, the latest rendition of the NV Brut Esprit Nature is showing very well, mingling aromas of yellow orchard fruit and peach with nuances of toasted bread, candied peel, white flowers, clear honey and fresh almonds. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping, it's elegantly vinous, with lively acids and a long, delicately oak-inflected finish. Fermented in barrels, some 20% of the blend derives from domaine holdings."
