Domaine Taupenot-Merme's 2014 Bel Air comes from a well-situated Premier Cru parcel on the southern side of Gevrey-Chambertin, close to the border with Morey-Saint-Denis.
“Bel Air” lives up to its name: slightly elevated and well-ventilated, with classic limestone-rich soils that favour finesse and aromatic lift over sheer power. Compared to some of Gevrey’s more muscular Premier Crus, Bel Air shows a more refined, structured profile.
The 2014 vintage in Burgundy was ultimately a success story after a challenging growing season. A warm, sunny September saved the harvest, delivering healthy fruit with bright acidity and excellent purity. In Gevrey, the wines are defined by clarity, structure and classical proportions — less about opulence, more about precision and longevity. A vintage that rewards patience.
What the critics say:
"A cool, pure and restrained nose displays the attractively fresh essence of red pinot fruit, lavender and discreet earth nuances. There is equally good freshness and detail to the utterly delicious, complex and mineral-driven medium-bodied flavors that display a taut muscularity as well as a sophisticated mouth feel thanks to the fine-grained tannins shaping the saline and impressively intense finish. This too is really quite good and worth checking out. *Outstanding*"
