The 2023 growing season at Taupenot Merme began with a mild winter, followed by moderate spring and summer temperatures, and avoided extreme heat spikes. Early budbreak in April, mid-blossom in June, and veraison by late July led to a harvest from September 11-25, following a cooler, rainy spell in late August. Despite a season marked by an overall water deficit, careful organic management and two green harvests in July produced a balanced crop.
"Vibrant dark red fruit, brimming with energy. Harmonious with cherry and cranberry notes."
Our note
The 2023 wines show moderate acidity with alcohol levels ranging from 12.3-13.6%, and phenolic ripeness reached across each cuvée. Reflecting a restrained, terroir-driven vintage, these wines lean towards elegance and subtle expression, rather than overt power.
Optimal drinking window: Now - 2034
What the critics say:
"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Red cherries, strawberries and spice. Generous, rounded fruit on the palate. Ripe and medium-bodied. Fresh, juicy acidity and moderately ripe tannins growing on the finish. All in balance, forward and quite open."
"The 2023 Gevrey-Chambertin Village has a fragrant bouquet, more generous than the Morey-Saint-Denis with black cherries, sous-bois and pressed rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied and cohesive, with crisp tannins and a peppery finish that lingers tenderly on the finish. This is definitely worth seeking out."
