Edouard Delaunay's 2023 reds are more refined, with less power than the previous years, offering more elegance and poise. The acidity is well-integrated, and the tannins are fine and soft, especially in the wines from the southern parts of Nuits-Saint-Georges (NSG), which do not include any whole bunches. The reds from 2023 show great potential for ageing, with enough structure to develop further while maintaining a fresh, layered character.
"This wine, still in development, shows incredible potential. It’s a powerful wine with rich fruit, balanced acidity, and a long, complex finish. This Grand Cru has everything for a long and rewarding ageing journey."
Our note
Overall, the 2023 vintage is a welcome surprise, offering a balance of power and elegance. With a focus on terroir expression, the wines show great ageing potential and freshness, with no over-ripeness or dilution. The whites are bright, fresh, and pure, while the reds show refinement and elegance, with a good structure for future ageing. While some of the wines are still developing, there is much to look forward to in the coming years.
What the critics say:
"It seems almost rude to write, of a grand cru burgundy, 'juice, juice, juicy!'. But that's what I thought when I tasted this baby GC. Lots of raspberry fruit with a splash of blackberry and a slice of slate. Tannins that feel like licking wet slate. Blackberry-leaf herbal. A wine that moves in a full circle, tracing an elegant line. Nothing showy here. Exceptionally refined."
"Six barrels, two from Petit Musigni and four from Les 10 Journaux which is in whole bunch vinification. Two new barrels. A deepish crimson purple. The stems give an exciting lift to the wine to escape from the more muscular side. Significantly rich raspberry and cherry fruit with an excellent suavity of texture. Really well done, I am impressed. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2024 ****"
