"Two barrels, one new. Some Mazoyères fruit included, small part whole bunch. Brooding and powerful, yet balanced by fresh acidity and fine structure. A wine of presence and gravitas."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Maison Edouard Delaunay is a story of rebirth. Since re-emerging, the team has established a remarkable reputation, particularly for its whites, which show bright, front-foot-forward fruit and unmistakable precision. There is no set recipe for each vintage; each wine reflects its terroir, and each year presents a new challenge to express the land faithfully.
With 52 appellations produced in 2024 - just a third of a regular vintage due to careful selection - the domaine continues to prioritise quality over quantity, focusing on what truly matters: the character of each plot.
Edouard Delaunay is one of Tim Atkin's Top 15 Négociants & Cooperatives.
What the critics say:
"Two barrels, one new, 13.3%. Quite a dense ruby. Not too much on the first nose, then more powerful fruit behind, strawberry with a touch of cherry, some depth as well as length, an honourable example of the appellation, staying fresh. Fine tannins."
"Bright mid ruby. Luminescent. Red-cherry and raspberry nose. Good intensity to the palate with a typical sweet, unctuous core of Charmes fruit. There is definite breadth and bulk to this, even some denser chalky tannins, but showing depth and concentration."
"This originates in equal parts from Mazoyères (one barrel from 65-year-old vines) and Charmes (one barrel from 30-year-old vines). The latter fruit was particularly beautiful in 2024, according to Laurent Delaunay. The bold perfume showcases black cherries, blueberry compote, wet river stones and loam. It’s a lovely yin-yang of fruit and earthiness that only Burgundy can do this way. The welcomed mid-palate baby fat is encased in slightly marked, grippy tannins that should subside over the next year. In fact, the wine is about to be racked so that it can start that process. Buoyant acidity discreetly carries the cheerful tangle of flavors into an extensive finish."
