The 2023 growing season at Taupenot Merme began with a mild winter, followed by moderate spring and summer temperatures, and avoided extreme heat spikes. Early budbreak in April, mid-blossom in June, and veraison by late July led to a harvest from September 11-25, following a cooler, rainy spell in late August. Despite a season marked by an overall water deficit, careful organic management and two green harvests in July produced a balanced crop.
"Expressive red fruit with a soft, balanced palate featuring gentle red fruit and a hint of straw, harmonious in structure."
Our note
The 2023 wines show moderate acidity with alcohol levels ranging from 12.3-13.6%, and phenolic ripeness reached across each cuvée. Reflecting a restrained, terroir-driven vintage, these wines lean towards elegance and subtle expression, rather than overt power.
Optimal drinking window: 2026 - 2035
What the critics say:
"Cask sample. Mid ruby. Lovely, expressively floral nose of red cherry and strawberry. Juicy acidity and just moderate, chalky tannins."
"The 2023 Chambolle-Musigny Village has an attractive bouquet, classic in style with slightly leafy red berry fruit, perhaps reflecting the cooler aspects of the growing season. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. Fresh, vibrant and lightly spiced, this feels very cohesive and persistent on the finish. Enjoy this over the next decade."
