2024 in Chablis presented growers with significant weather challenges - frost, hail and rain reduced yields dramatically - but what fruit was harvested was healthy and ripened with excellent balance. Wines from great sites like Vaillons show striking purity, tension and minerality, reflecting both the vintage’s adversity and the vineyard’s ability to maintain freshness.
“I was really quite impressed with the Fèvre 2024s and highly commend them to readers’ attention.”
Allen Meadows, BurgHound
Vaillons is one of the largest Premier Cru sites in Chablis, located on the left bank of the Serein River in soils dominated by limestone and Kimmeridgian marl, with an unusually firm Portlandian limestone component that gives this cru its distinctive clarity and structure. Fèvre’s plots span several lieux-dits within Vaillons, ensuring a tapestry of mineral nuance and orchard fruit character.
Founded in 1959, Domaine William Fèvre is one of Chablis’s benchmark estates, with significant Premier and Grand Cru holdings. Known for organic and biodynamic farming and careful parcel-by-parcel vinification, the domaine produces wines prized for their purity, minerality and ageing potential.
What the critics say:
"Cool, airy and beautifully layered aromas of white pepper, lemon zest, quinine and an array of floral wisps serve as an elegant introduction to the dense, overtly stony and vibrant middle weight flavors that possess first-rate cut and excellent length on the lightly bitter citrus-inflected finale. This is lovely and while it could use better depth, the balance is impeccable. *Outstanding*"
"Overall a yield of 12hl/ha, though with differences: 30 hl/ha in Mélinots, but the other end of the valley was badly hailed. A little more flesh alongside the classical style. The usual chalky stony character through the mouth, with a dancing finish, pure elegance and some persistence. *4 stars*"
