Giodo is the personal estate of renowned Italian consultant Carlo Ferrini, and his Brunello is a finely tuned, elegant expression of Sangiovese. The 2021 vintage in Montalcino is widely regarded as outstanding: a growing season marked by warm days, cool nights and excellent diurnal shifts, delivering wines with both concentration and freshness. At Giodo, this translates into a Brunello of clarity and energy, with vibrant fruit, poised structure and impressive ageing potential.
The 'Prètto' marks an exciting collaboration between Carlo Ferrini and his daughter, Bianca. Selected from specific barrels, it focuses on a vibrant, energetic expression of Sangiovese, and sits stylistically between a Rosso and a Brunello: more structured than a Rosso, yet more open and immediate than the main Brunello. Serious, but effortlessly drinkable.
Ferrini is arguably Italy’s most high-profile wine consultant, having worked with estates such as San Leonardo, Siepi and Castello di Romitorio - all firm favourites of ours. After advising numerous growers across Montalcino over the years, it’s little surprise that his own project delivers such assured quality.
What the critics say:
"A new wine that is a cask selection. It’s certainly different from the normal bottling, with aromas of red cherries, cedar, hibiscus and crushed stones. The palate shows round tannins and a juicy and savory finish. A second wine of this estate. From organically grown grapes. Best after 2028."
"Showing a more jovial personality, this new wine from Carlo Ferrini is meant to bridge the gap between his Rosso and the flagship Giodo Brunello. The Giodo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Prètto represents a new mid-level Brunello, a category increasingly shaped by a market less tolerant of overpriced wines. In the Tuscan dialect, Prètto means “truthful” or “sincere.” It delivers punchy fruit achieved through a slow 20-day skin maceration, along with spice, white pepper and pressed violet. Slightly more accessible in style, the wine still maintains good freshness and balance, reflecting Ferrini’s intent to offer an honest and immediately appealing Brunello. The wine is released in a production of 15,000 bottles from fruit selected across four hectares of vines."
"Crushed black raspberries combine with shavings of cedar, sweet lavender and crushed violets as the 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Pretto forms its darkly alluring bouquet. Juicy upon entry, it offers fresh acidity and a cascade of ripe red and blue fruits, while inner violet florals add a lovely perfumed character. The wine displays exceptional length and balanced structure, leaving a citrus twang to enliven the finish."
