Giodo is the personal estate of renowned Italian consultant Carlo Ferrini, and his Brunello is a finely tuned, elegant expression of Sangiovese. The 2021 vintage in Montalcino is widely regarded as outstanding: a growing season marked by warm days, cool nights and excellent diurnal shifts, delivering wines with both concentration and freshness. At Giodo, this translates into a Brunello of clarity and energy, with vibrant fruit, poised structure and impressive ageing potential.

Ferrini is arguably Italy’s most high-profile wine consultant, having worked with estates such as San Leonardo, Siepi and Castello di Romitorio - all firm favourites of ours. After advising numerous growers across Montalcino over the years, it’s little surprise that his own project delivers such assured quality.

What the critics say:

99/100James Suckling

"The purity of fruit and elegance are so beautiful, perfumed and ethereal. it’s medium-bodied with ultra-fine tannins and gorgeous black cherries, blackberries and brambleberries with a hint of cedar. Vibrant finish. From organically grown grapes. Better in 2028 and beyond."

98/100Jeb Dunnuck

"Pouring a bright red hue with orange-tinged edges, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is high-toned and shy on opening, but it begins to unfurl with air, revealing mint, blood orange, redcurrants, cranberries, juniper, and brambly herbs. The palate is medium-bodied and beautifully structured, with a mouthwatering spine of acidity, fine, coiled tannins, and a long finish that stays lifted and precise. Tasted a second time, it comes together more completely, gaining seamless suppleness and deeper mineral underpinnings that carry through the finish. It’s a fantastic Brunello that should only improve for decades."

OUR GROWERS

Podere Giodo

Named after his parents Giovanna and Donatello, Ferrini’s 5.5ha of vineyards, which enjoy an elevated position at 300-400m above sea level situated between Sant’Angelo in Colle and Sant’Antimo, are planted with low yielding Sangiovese Grosso clones that produce loose bunches of small, thick-skinned berries – perfect for producing textbook aromas and flavours.
