Lot.1 is Santiago Marone Cinzano’s modern take on Brunello, shaped by a deliberately flexible, vintage-led philosophy. Rather than tying the wine to a fixed vineyard, each release is drawn from the single plot that performs best in that specific year, allowing the wine to respond naturally to seasonal conditions and the realities of climate change. The aim is clarity, freshness and energy - a Brunello style that feels precise and forward-looking while remaining true to Sangiovese.
Winemaking is carried out in close collaboration with Donato Lanati, one of Italy’s most respected oenologists, whose résumé includes Giacomo Conterno and Giuseppe Mascarello.
What the critics say:
"The certified organic Conti Marone Cinzano (CMC) 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Lot. 1 represents the second vintage of this limited bottling. The wine shows a dark color with aromas of plum and blackcurrant, gaining lift and momentum on the palate thanks to well-balanced acidity. Savory tones dominate the bouquet, with notes of sweet earth and tobacco adding depth and nuance. The tannins are open-knit and largely polymerized, giving the wine an accessible, polished feel at this stage. Production is limited to 6,644 bottles, sourced entirely from the Fontillatro vineyard, located on a naturally ventilated terrace at 210 meters above sea level. The vines were planted in 1985 on stratified loamy soils with limestone and high fossil content. This bottling marks an important step in the estate’s effort to highlight individual sites through small-batch Brunello."
"The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino Lot l is darkly floral and pleasantly earthy in the glass, mixing flowery underbrush and tobacco with nuances of gravel dust, dried roses and leather. It is round and expansive, with dark red berry fruits, crunchy mineral tones and a cascade of inner florals. A slight sour citrus tinge offsets dried herbs and a tart cranberry saturation on the youthfully tense and structured finish. Despite the riper vintage, the 2020 comes across as totally classic."
