The Chavy family has been making wine in Puligny-Montrachet for over two centuries, and in 2003, Alain established his own 10-hectare domaine following the division of his father’s holdings. He owns vines in some of Puligny’s most prized 1er Crus – notably Folatières and Champs Gains – and a particularly well-made Bourgogne Chardonnay that offers superb value.  The unicorn is the 2021 ‘Les Quatre Climats’ – a one-off cuvée, which contains the fruit left after the devastating frosts, from all four of the domaine’s premier cru sites.  The hidden gem is ‘Les Charmes’, a lieu dit that borders Premier Cru ‘Les Referts’ to the west and Meursault Premier Cru ‘Les Charmes’ to the north.  This is (literally) touching Premier Cru quality at village level pricing.

Alain’s approach in the cellar is one of low-intervention, with minimal bâtonnage and a measured use of new oak. The results are precise, mineral-driven Chardonnays with transparency to their terroirs, yet still with supple and generous mid-palate fruit expressions.  These come highly recommended to lovers of classically styled white burgundy, especially those seeking exceptional value from a region where this can be hard to find.

We have a range of vintages and cuvées to offer, focussing on the concentrated, solar 22s and sinuous, sapid 21s, all extremely competitively priced, typically the very lowest in the UK market.
