Rothenpfad was mentioned in the historic Mosel wine map as among the best in the region. The red slate that dominates here provides the wines with a herbal-spicy note, balanced with a bone-dry note.
The 2024 Mosel vintage was marked by a challenging season and low yields, but the quality is high. The wines are fresh and precise, with bright acidity and moderate alcohol.
"The wines are exquisite, and each of the various Marienburg parcels is different: they shimmer aromatically, are alluring and profound, intense yet streamlined. Truly one of the Mosel’s best."
Anne Krebiehl, Vinous
Clemens and his wife Rita are a humble yet hugely respected duo, having built a cult following over the past 30 years for their incredibly precise, richly textured, and terroir-driven wines. Produced biodynamically and organically since 1984, they are a compelling choice for Riesling enthusiasts who appreciate a mineral-driven profile.
What the critics say:
"The 2024 Riesling Pündericher Marienburg Rothenpfad Grosses Gewächs is from ancient, ungrafted vines rooted in red slate. Only a touch of deadnettle appears on the nose and sets the tone for herbal savoriness alongside petrichor. The palate again sports this gorgeous edge of white pepper, while the body has everything. The 2024 is an incredibly compact bundle of citric energy. It is beautifully svelte and so very sinuous. (Bone-dry) "
"In a citrus-driven collection, this is a clear outlier, where red fruit takes the lead. A wine of exhilarating energy rather than delicacy. It is a juicy hike through rocky crags, up acid edges and ancient smoky stone, culminating in a precipice alight with glorious and radiant fruit. Vivacious, powerful and tense, it is a statement of immense promise, still sleeping in its core."
"The intensity of wild herb aromas of this youthful Mosel GG is very impressive. Still tightly wound on the compact, intensely minerally, medium-bodied palate, but the energy in the very long, cool finish suggests this has great potential. From biodynamically grown grapes with Respekt certification."
