The Clemens Busch 'Raffes' is a single-vineyard dry Riesling from a very select part of the Falkenlay section within the Pündericher Marienburg vineyard in the Mosel. Raffes refers to a small cadastral parcel on steep, grey slate soils nestled within Falkenlay’s oldest terraces, where vines planted around the mid-20th century produce very low yields of highly concentrated fruit. This sheltered site, protected from cold easterly winds, allows grapes to achieve excellent ripeness and intensity.
Classified as GL (Grosse Lage), the highest vineyard tier in the VDP system, the Felsterrasse is roughly equivalent to a Grand Cru.
The 2024 Mosel vintage was marked by a challenging season and low yields, but the quality is high. The wines are fresh and precise, with bright acidity and moderate alcohol.
"The wines are exquisite, and each of the various Marienburg parcels is different: they shimmer aromatically, are alluring and profound, intense yet streamlined. Truly one of the Mosel’s best."
Anne Krebiehl, Vinous
Clemens and his wife Rita are a humble yet hugely respected duo, having built a cult following over the past 30 years for their incredibly precise, richly textured, and terroir-driven wines. Produced biodynamically and organically since 1984, they are a compelling choice for Riesling enthusiasts who appreciate a mineral-driven profile.
What the critics say:
"The Marienburg Raffes 2024, as it is referred to on the central part of the label, is a legally dry wine made from fruit picked in a prime terraced part of the grey-slated Falkenlay sector. It offers a stunning nose of pear, minerals, white peach, mirabelle, flowers, and spices. The wine is beautifully playful and finely chiseled on the palate and leaves a gorgeous feel of fresh herbs and fine spices in the long finish. It is still a touch firm at this early stage and could even easily exceed our already high expectations at maturity: It is that impressive!"
