From a single, terraced parcel within the famed Pündericher Marienburg vineyard along the Mosel, Felsterrasse means “rock terrace,” referring to the steep terraces with grey slate soils. These are harder and less weathered than other parts of Marienburg; they are famously difficult to cultivate but give vines access to deep, mineral-rich ground - and the slate’s minerality and the extreme slope translate into wines with clarity, structural tension and pronounced slate influence in every vintage.
Classified as VDP.Grosse Lage, the highest vineyard tier in the VDP system, the Felsterrasse is roughly equivalent to a Grand Cru.
The 2024 Mosel vintage was marked by a challenging season and low yields, but the quality is high. The wines are fresh and precise, with bright acidity and moderate alcohol.
"The wines are exquisite, and each of the various Marienburg parcels is different: they shimmer aromatically, are alluring and profound, intense yet streamlined. Truly one of the Mosel’s best."
Anne Krebiehl, Vinous
Clemens and his wife Rita are a humble yet hugely respected duo, having built a cult following over the past 30 years for their incredibly precise, richly textured, and terroir-driven wines. Produced biodynamically and organically since 1984, they are a compelling choice for Riesling enthusiasts who appreciate a mineral-driven profile.
What the critics say:
"The Marienburg Felsterrasse 2024, as it is referred to on the central part of the label, is a legally dry wine made with fruit picked in a prime terraced part of the grey-slated Falkenlay sector. This bright-white-colored wine offers a beautiful nose made of fine spices and herbs. It proves superbly spicy, packed with citrus and herbs on the palate, and leaves a hugely convincing feel of fresh herbs in the long finish. This is a stunning wine in the making."
