This dry Riesling comes from the "Fahrlay" parcel within the Marienburg vineyard, one of Busch's most prized sites, noted for its distinctive blue slate soils. The hallmark of this wine is its sharp minerality, driven by the blue slate soils, which gives it a steely, almost salty character. The wine has a linear, focused profile with vibrant acidity that provides freshness and lift, and the 'Reserve' receives extra ageing and selection above the standard Grosses Gewächs bottling.
The 2024 Mosel vintage was marked by a challenging season and low yields, but the quality is high. The wines are fresh and precise, with bright acidity and moderate alcohol.
"The wines are exquisite, and each of the various Marienburg parcels is different: they shimmer aromatically, are alluring and profound, intense yet streamlined. Truly one of the Mosel’s best."
Anne Krebiehl, Vinous
Clemens and his wife Rita are a humble yet hugely respected duo, having built a cult following over the past 30 years for their incredibly precise, richly textured, and terroir-driven wines. Produced biodynamically and organically since 1984, they are a compelling choice for Riesling enthusiasts who appreciate a mineral-driven profile.
What the critics say:
"The Marienburg Fahrlay 2023 >reserve<, as it is referred to on the central part of the label, was fermented spontaneously in traditional oak casks from fruit harvested in a prime terraced part of the blue slate Fahrlay sector and was left on its lees for 24 months before being bottled. It offers a stunning nose made of white peach, mint, whipped cream, white flowers, and smoke. The wine is stunningly balanced and elegant on the palate, and the finish is simply to die for with grapefruit, citrus, a hint of bergamot, and all delivered with finesse and persistence. What a wine!"
