Another stellar set of wines from Albert Bichot. Bichot continues its unwavering commitment to excellence, crafting wines of precision and elegance. Certified organic since 2018, the domaine integrates sustainability into its approach, ensuring a thoughtful balance between tradition and innovation.
"Neighbouring La Tâche and Richebourg, this wine exhibits a vivid nose of raspberries, strawberries, and forest fruits, layered with floral and spicy accents. Concentrated yet delicate, it shows remarkable length and balance. This cuvée, crafted with Grand Cru care, will benefit from extended cellaring."
Our note
The 2023 vintage, shaped by Matthieu Mangenot’s expertise, reflects a shift from the previous year with less use of whole bunch fermentation, focusing instead on purity and clarity of fruit. Across the range, the wines showcase impressive structure, vibrant acidity, and nuanced expressions of their respective terroirs, promising early approachability for some and significant aging potential for others.
What the critics say:
"A much darker ruby. The fruit has a suggestion of black cherry and raspberry, the acidity is firmer and there are tannins too. This has much of the weight and stature of Malconsorts, though more firmly structured than hedonistically gorgeous. Tasted Oct 2024."
"This is wonderful. Tissue-paper texture. Vibrant fruit. Blood orange and wild strawberry. Slightly peppery. Ruched tannins and satin ribbons of energy. This wine really flows – sinuous. Every molecule is singing and vibrating."
"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Les Malconsorts 1er Cru was picked on September 9 with '25% whole cluster and 35% new oak. It offers pretty cranberry and wild strawberry scents on the nose, well-defined, if not quite as complex as its peers. The palate is well balanced with crisp, slightly crunchy red berry fruit on the entry. There is something "playful" about this Les Malconsorts. It doesn't take itself too seriously, yet there is ample tension and considerable mineralité on the finish. Not to be underestimated. "
