The wines from Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard have a clear purity and minerality as well as a lovely weight and richness of fruit. Céline Fontaine and her husband Fred Robert (formerly of Armand Rousseau) have over the past decade raised their stock exponentially.

Céline has introduced using only natural yeast and prefers to age the top cru’s slightly longer in tank, meaning they age more slowly in bottle than we saw previously. This is a well-regarded estate which has moved into its next epoch and with quality only on the rise, there is a lot to love about all of these wines.

"The 2022 Volnay Clos des Chênes 1er Cru, which had a little more grillure than other cuvées so that they lost part of the production, has a beautiful nose with pressed violet-infused red fruit and seamlessly integrated oak. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins, fleshy but with ample backbone and insistent grip towards the finish. This Volnay has great potential. "
"A ripe, bright and cool mix consists mainly of red cherry, raspberry, soft earth and a pretty mix of floral elements. There is better volume and intensity to the sappy and tautly muscular flavors that brim with minerality on the dusty, youthfully austere, long and built-to-age finale. 'Outstanding'"
