Vega Sicilia remains the undisputed benchmark of Ribera del Duero, with ‘Unico’ and ‘Valbuena’ defining Spanish fine wine for generations. Their wines are produced in extremely limited quantities, released only when the estate believes they are ready, and consistently reward long term patience with extraordinary complexity, longevity and grace.

Their Magnums are always released a year later than the 75cls. 2014 was a healthy crop for Vega Sicilia which Zekun Shuai, JamesSuckling.com Senior Editor, has described as “refined, ethereal and elegant”.

What the critics say:

98/100James Suckling

"A refined, ethereal and elegant Unico. Streamlined layers of mixed peppercorns, smoked paprika, blackberries and spiced dark fruit. Hints of orange zest and flowers. Spicy, with tightly wound tannins. The length is impressive. 94% tempranillo and 6% cabernet sauvignon. Tasted from magnum. Coming along nicely. Try on release in 2026 or after."

18.5/20Jancis Robinson

"Deep garnet. Smells like warm damp cedar (imagine a deliciously woody sauna) and old leather. Sweet oak provides a plush carpet for dried strawberry and cherry fruit. Lovely. Long. Superfine mouth-coating tannin. Oak here is more evident than on the 2004 Único."

OUR GROWERS

Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia is unquestionably Spain's most iconic producer. The domaine is a whopping 700 meters above sea level in the shallow part of the Duero River Valley. The Unique climate of cold nights and hot days allows grapes to become perfectly ripe and develop a wonderful tannic structure, with a delightful backbone of acidity and therefore superb balance.
