Torbreck Vintners, Woodcutter’s Shiraz 2022 is classic Barossa with a modern, juicy twist—rich, generous, and full of personality.

Inspired by the hardy woodcutters who once worked the Scottish Highlands (a nod to founder David Powell’s roots), this wine delivers plush dark fruit, a swirl of sweet spice, and that signature Torbreck polish, all wrapped up in velvety tannins. The 2022 vintage shows real vibrancy and poise; there’s depth and ripeness, of course, but also freshness and lift that keeps you coming back for another sip.

This is Shiraz that doesn't try too hard. It's approachable, confident, and crowd-pleasing - perfect for everything from midweek roasts to Saturday night barbecues. A go-to red that’s as reliable as it is rewarding.

What the critics say:

91/100Erin Larkin, Wine Advocate

"The 2022 Woodcutter's Shiraz is a brilliant entrée to Barossa Shiraz. It exhibits all the earthy, red gravel, ironstone characters that infuse the tannic structure, while fleshed out by dense, purple fruit. It has levity and balance and freshness too, which is ultimately what makes it a great wine. There's gorgeous splay of spicy tannins, chewy and a little grippy. Matured for 10 months in seasoned oak, "the 2023 is coming out of oak as we speak now," says winemaker Ian Hongell. The fruit for this wine cascades down from a number of different sources within the Barossa (including Eden Valley). It's very good. 15% alcohol, sealed under screw cap."

OUR GROWERS

Torbreck Vintners

David Powell share-farms the Torbreck vineyard, a practice which involves paying the owner a percentage of the market rate for his grapes in return for totally managing the vineyard. This share-farming principle has enabled Torbreck to use fruit from the very best vineyards in the Barossa Valley, which is home to some of the most precious old vines in the world.

The Torbreck endeavour is based around the classic Barossa Valley varietals of Shiraz, Grenache and Mataro, and a love for the wines of France's Rhone Valley. Their whites are made from Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne.
