Villa Gresti is named after Gemma di Gresti, a remarkable ancestor of the family who played a key role in repatriating thousands of Italian prisoners of war from Russia after World War I.

Much like its namesake, this wine is both impressive and full of character. Made from 90% Merlot, it offers a unique take on the estate’s terroir—not a second wine, but a distinct expression. With its rich, velvety texture and deep, layered flavours, Villa Gresti can easily rival some of the top Pomerols, often at a fraction of the price.

What the critics say:

94/100Eric Guido, Vinous

"The 2016 Rosso Villa Gresti di San Leonardo captivates with a dusting of crushed chalk and dried violets before blossoming with black berries and hints of tomato leaf. This is silky and cool-toned, with a core of brisk acids that enliven the tart wild red and blue berries within. It leaves a coating of fine tannins, along with a touch of stimulating sour citrus, while tapering off incredibly long and spicy. The balance here is amazing and will import the 2016 with a long and fruitful life. The Villa Gresti di San Leonardo is a blend of Merlot with a dollop of Carmenere from an old vineyard located around Villa Gresti. "

94/100James Suckling

"Lots of mushrooms, but not much fruit on the nose. However, on the palate this is quite a ripe wine with plenty of blackcurrant and some red bell pepper. Then the generous, fine tannins come through and build to a crescendo. Crisp finish with plenty of earthy complexity. Drinkable now, but better from 2023."
