RWT stands for “Red Winemaking Trial,” a project Penfolds initiated in the early 1990s to explore a refined, French-oak–styled Shiraz from Barossa. Designed to balance plush varietal character with elegance, the first RWT was released from the 1997 vintage.
Penfolds is one of Australia’s most iconic wineries, with a history stretching back to 1844 when Dr Christopher and Mary Penfold planted their first vines in Magill, South Australia. From those modest beginnings, it has grown into a global benchmark for quality, best known for producing rich, age-worthy reds.
