"Compact and mineral-driven, with stony freshness and fine, sandy tannins. Long, cool and precise."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Domaine Jean Tardy is a quietly brilliant Côte de Nuits estate, founded by Jean Tardy after years as a share-cropper for Méo-Camuzet, and expanded under his son Guillaume since 1997. The domaine now spans Fixin to Vosne-Romanée, with all wines bottled by individual vineyard.
The 2024 vintage was one of the most challenging since 2013, marked by frost, heavy rainfall and severe mildew pressure, reducing yields to just 18 hl/ha. Picked early to preserve freshness, the resulting wines are delicate, subtle and finely balanced rather than powerful, with clarity of fruit and gentle structure very much to the fore.
Fully destemmed and softly extracted, the reds emphasise aromatic purity and smooth tannins over force. This is a vintage for finesse and drinkability, offering real pleasure across the range.
What the critics say:
"The 2024 Nuits Saint-Georges Aux Argillats 1er Cru has a vibrant bouquet with dark red berry fruit laced with bergamot, fine delineation and is quite charming. The palate is mediumbodied with pliant tannins and tart red fruit with a slightly bitter finish. Early drinking but well crafted and full of personality. "
"Moderately generous wood stops short of overshadowing the cool, pure and airy aromas of both red and dark cherry and humus-tinged earth. The super-sleek and intense medium weight flavors display a more prominent minerality on the impressively long and already complex finale. This needs to eat its wood but it should be able to do that in time. Worth a look. *Outstanding*"
"Quite a pale crimson especially at the rim. This is no deeper than the village but perhaps with finer delicacy, with the energy only coming at the back of the palate. Though it is close to the town of Nuits-St-Georges, the style is more Vosne like, especially in the tannins."
