In 2023, Guillaume Tardy began the harvest on September 11, seizing the warm, dry window before rain arrived. This vintage also marked a new chapter for the estate, with Tardy introducing a gentle destemmer designed to preserve the integrity of each grape without breaking the skins, resulting in wines with refined perfumes and softer tannins. The 2023s show a shift toward elegance and suppleness, moving away from previous vintages' emphasis on power.

"Displays refined red fruit on the nose, with a transition to bluer fruit on the palate. The structure is elegant and refined, with a moreish finish. Aged in 40% new oak."
Our note

The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness with sugar levels between 12.5-13% and a pH of 3.4-3.5. Yields averaged 45-48 Hl/Ha, except for Échezeaux at 40 Hl/Ha. Bottling is expected in February. By contrast, 2024 yielded just 53 barrels (compared to 120 in 2023), as difficult growing conditions took a toll, although quality remains promising.

What the critics say:

90-93/100Jasper Morris, Inside Burgundy

"Vivacious mid ruby, with a greater density of fruit on the nose, mainly raspberry, at just the right degree of ripeness. As always, this is the most complete of the Tardy village wines with both muscle and finesse, and the longest finish. The upper part seems to Guillaume to reflect the soil of Aux Boudots above, while the lower part has more clay. Drink from 2029-2035. Tasted Nov 2024 ****"

90-92/100Neal Martin, Vinous

"The 2023 Nuits Saint-Georges Au Bas de Combe Vieilles Vignes has a vibrant, fresh bouquet with a mixture of red and black fruit. This is quite a mineral-driven Nuits Saint-Georges with admirable transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and black cherry notes mixed with subtle blueberry fruit tones. It's harmonious with a white pepper-tinged finish. This is another delicious wine from Tardy in the making."
