This wine is offered En Primeur, with an est. delivery in late 2024/early 2025.

Domaine de Montille is one of Burgundy’s most revered estates and this burgeoning family property is very much at the top of its game, producing wines of exceptional quality: scintillating, proper Burgundies, unusually across both reds and whites.

Features as one of the Top 10 Côte de Beaune Red Wine Producers and Top 10 Côte de Beaune White Wine Producers in Tim Atkin's Burgundy 2022 Special Report.

Self-confessed ‘acid freak’ Brian Sieve was especially careful with battonage and lees-stirring of the Chardonnays in 2022, to maintain freshness and verve, noting that it was not a high acid vintage. A little less new oak (not that there is ever more than just enough) and whole bunches in the reds than in the previous solar vintages, plus the gentler acid profile means the wines have a charm and immediacy to rival any vintage we’ve tasted from the domaine.

“A site close to Vosne Romanée, next to two famous Nuits crus – ‘Argillats’ and ‘Chaignots’, the limestone soils here are marked a number of small stones. One of the hidden gems in the portfolio, this is the “other” 1er Cru that de Montille has in the Cote de Nuits apart from their plots in flagship ‘Malconsorts’ in neighbouring Vosne. 60% whole bunch and 30% new oak. High-toned, inky but perfumed blue and red fruits, floral with hints of wild thyme at the base of an old stone wall. A crunchy attack of sappy, succulent red plums, and newly-polished leather, medium-grained, refined tannins, and a touch of liquorice on the finely-drawn finish. Confident and complete.”

About Domaine de Montille

Domaine de Montille is now in its ninth generation under the stewardship of sibling duo Étienne & Alix, who have largely remained true to their father’s vision of creating elegant, pure and balanced wines.

In fact Étienne was instrumental in pushing the sustainability of the Domaine by abandoning all chemical fertilisers and herbicides in 1985 and fully transitioning to biodynamic farming in 2005.
