Domaine des Lambrays continues its remarkable ascent under Jacques Devauges, with a level of precision and finesse that would have seemed fanciful a decade ago. The monopole Clos des Lambrays remains one of Burgundy’s great Grand Crus, but what’s increasingly compelling is the depth across the range - the Premier Cru Morey Clos Sorbè and Cuvée les Loups are both now very much playing in the same league stylistically.
The 2024 vintage, while smaller in volume, has delivered wines of striking purity and definition. Jasper Morris MW points to their “tensile strength” and refinement, and the overall sense is less about power, more about detail. These are wines that will reward patience, but there’s already a transparency here that is deeply satisfying for those who favour precision over sheer scale.
What the critics say:
"From La Riotte, Blanchards, and Le village at the end of the garden, all co-fermented. Deepish topsoil, with clay and a warm microclimate. The topsoil is 32–40 inches (80–100cm) deep in La Riotte, with limestone underneath. Blanchards is more colluvial. Floral aromas with ripe red-currant fruit. Juicy splash, generous, neatly rounded with firm but nicely ripe tannins, with a garden-herb, fresh and aromatic finish."
"The 2024 Premier Cru Les Loups delivers ripe aromas of strawberry and black plums with a floral edge. The texture is silky, approachable and supple, and the fruit flavours echo with delightful purity and depth of flavour on the palate. The grapes are blended from Clos Sorbè, Blanchards, La Riotte and Le Village; there is less density and grip here than in the single-climat wines, but the result is more open and should mature earlier."
