Likened to Armand Rousseau by Neal Martin and one to watch, rising star Xavier Horiot's reclamation of Domaine Launay-Horiot must be one of the most remarkable stories in the Côte d’Or. These are absolutely up there with the best red Burgundies being produced in Pommard and Chambertin.
Both of Xavier Horiot's Grands Crus are breathtaking and the Latricières comes from a small 0.17ha parcel adjacent to Chambertin (and next to Duroché). This is always a gorgeous Grand Cru that you should absolutely snap up if you are offered some!
What the critics say:
"Another vibrant deep purple. The fruit is not quite so concentrated on nose or palate as the Pommard Rugiens but it is refined, an additional nobility here and the finish extends even further. A mixture of dark fruit refreshed by good acidity. Not for the fainthearted even so. Drink from 2032-2038. Tasted Nov 2025."
"Most landowners here have long parcels that span from the top to the bottom of the slope. Xavier’s sit upslope, across the road from Chambertin, where the soils are lighter and poor. This always makes for a markedly powerful and expansive wine once one looks past the evident finesse in the balletic tannins. Elderflower cordial, blood orange, Marasca cherries and roasted meat tease the palate. Fine streams of crushed stones brighten the finish with minerally flourishes. This deserves at least seven to eight years in the cellar."
