The blend for Krug's Rosé 29ème is a carefully crafted mosaic of 29 wines from five different vintages, with the youngest from 2017 and the oldest dating back to 2010. It’s made up of 44% Pinot Noir (including 11% traditionally macerated red Pinot for added colour and structure), 34% Chardonnay, and 22% Meunier. Reserve wines account for a generous 33% of the blend, adding depth and complexity.
Centred around the 2017 vintage, the wine offers a vibrant mix of red and yellow fruit—some fresh and tangy, others rich and jammy. The older reserve wines lend smoothness, richness, and a velvety texture that ties it all together beautifully.
Olivier Krug continues to honour his family’s legacy, following the founding principles laid out by Joseph Krug in 1848—chief among them, the belief that excellence in Champagne comes from meticulous blending, or assemblage.
What the critics say:
"Krug’s NV Rosé 29ème Édition blends 29 wines from five harvests dating back to 2010, and like the Grande Cuvée, each component is selected by Krug’s tasting committee through blind tastings. Anchored by the 2017 vintage, which comprises 67% of the assemblage, it gains its color, texture and character from the addition of 11% still red wine from Aÿ-Champagne and Mutigny, sourced from the 2016 and 2017 vintages. The wine opens with aromas evocative of grapefruit zest, redcurrant and apple pie, intricately mingled with a subtle trace of Sichuan pepper and a whisper of rosewood oil. On the palate, it presents as medium- to full-bodied, vinous and textural—albeit slightly less chiseled than its white counterpart. A deep core of fruit, tangy acidity and a long, perfumed finish with a delicate phenolic grip complete this new release."
"The NV Rosé 29ème Édition is bright and effusive in the glass. Cranberry, pink grapefruit, white pepper, chalk and mint race out of the glass. In most releases, the Krug Rosé is more austere. This is an especially textured, open-knit Rosé that will drink well right out of the gate. What a delight."
