In 2023, Guillaume Tardy began the harvest on September 11, seizing the warm, dry window before rain arrived. This vintage also marked a new chapter for the estate, with Tardy introducing a gentle destemmer designed to preserve the integrity of each grape without breaking the skins, resulting in wines with refined perfumes and softer tannins. The 2023s show a shift toward elegance and suppleness, moving away from previous vintages' emphasis on power.
"A delicate perfume of roses and cherries leads to a vivacious palate of red and bilberry fruit. With very pure juice and rounded tannins, this cuvée emphasises finesse. Aged in 10% new oak."
Our note
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness with sugar levels between 12.5-13% and a pH of 3.4-3.5. Yields averaged 45-48 Hl/Ha, except for Échezeaux at 40 Hl/Ha. Bottling is expected in February. By contrast, 2024 yielded just 53 barrels (compared to 120 in 2023), as difficult growing conditions took a toll, although quality remains promising.
What the critics say:
"Pretty red berry and discreet earth nuances give way to vibrant and delicious, if not especially dense, flavors that conclude in a chiseled and lightly stony finale. This should drink well young on its balance but it could be held for 2 to 4 years as well if desired."
