The very old vine ‘Racines’ cuvée are from vines with an average of 100 years and are grown around the house on clay and limestone soils.
It will pair beautifully with hearty dishes like roasted or grilled lamb, beef stew, or game. It also complements dishes with rich, earthy flavours, such as mushroom risotto or slow-cooked meats with herbs. The wine's robust nature also makes it a good match for aged cheeses.
This is the finest estate in Gigondas and certainly one of the finest estates in the Southern Rhône. 25 hectares of vines, with an average age of 65-70 years, sitting in its own elevated hidden bowl at between 250-400m, facing north west and surrounded by 100 hectares of wild garrigue.
What the critics say:
"Shimmering ruby-red. The bouquet evokes pungent cherry, dark berry, floral, licorice, black tea and smoky mineral aromas. Youthfully taut bitter cherry and black raspberry flavors show excellent depth, and a spicy touch of cracked pepper sharpens the back half. Subtly chewy tannins build on a very long, penetrating finish that leaves bitter chocolate and candied lavender notes behind."
"A very deep, dark and dense Gigondas that nonetheless has great balance and finesse. Great dried Mediterranean herb complexity, but also stacks of licorice. Then comes wonderful freshness at the powerful and velvety finish. 90% grenache, 5% mourvedre and 5% clairette. Drinkable now, but best from 2025."
