"Refined and silky, with strawberry fruit and gentle sweetness. Elegant rather than powerful, with lovely balance."
Stewart Pryce, Honest Grapes Wine Club Manager
Domaine Jean Tardy is a quietly brilliant Côte de Nuits estate, founded by Jean Tardy after years as a share-cropper for Méo-Camuzet, and expanded under his son Guillaume since 1997. The domaine now spans Fixin to Vosne-Romanée, with all wines bottled by individual vineyard.
The 2024 vintage was one of the most challenging since 2013, marked by frost, heavy rainfall and severe mildew pressure, reducing yields to just 18 hl/ha. Picked early to preserve freshness, the resulting wines are delicate, subtle and finely balanced rather than powerful, with clarity of fruit and gentle structure very much to the fore.
Fully destemmed and softly extracted, the reds emphasise aromatic purity and smooth tannins over force. This is a vintage for finesse and drinkability, offering real pleasure across the range.
What the critics say:
"The 2024 Gevrey-Chambertin Champs Pèrrieres Vieilles Vignes has a very attractive nose: wild strawberry and wild hedgerow, a simmering background mineralité though understated. The palate is medium-bodied with lace-like tannins, fine tension and precision with a little more mineralité on the finish than some of Tardy's entry-level cuvées. Definitely worth seeking out. A "less is more" Gevrey. "
"This is cooler and a bit more elegant aromatically with its nose of the essence of wild red currant, forest floor and a hint of the sauvage along with an all but invisible application of oak. The beautifully textured and precise flavors aren't particularly dense but I like the energy and minerality that adds relief to the dusty, lightly austere and solidly persistent finish. Worth checking out. *Outstanding*"
