Based in the Southern Valleys in Marlborough, Fromm was established in the 90s, undergoing organic conversion in 2005, and has rapidly developed a cult reputation for its range of single vineyard reds & whites.

Winemaking is Burgundian, with little more than 3,000 cases produced annually. The vineyards are farmed by hand, grapes hand-picked, whilst in the winery they use wild yeasts, aging in Burgundian oak barrels, bottling with no fining or filtration and minimal sulphur. The resultant wines combine all the elegance, structure and suaveness of Burgundy yet with that signature plushness of NZ fruit, making them very attractive indeed.

"Cool and bright, showing zesty freshness upfront, with an underlying intensity that's both thirst-quenching and complex. Full of lemons and limes, a touch of grapefruit, freshly cut-grass, green bell pepper and elderflower all rolled-up together with some black current leaf and just a subtle hint of trademark Marlborough passionfruit. Very nicely balanced, a near-perfect blend of southern hemisphere sunshine and old world subtlety. Delicious."
Luke Gavin, Wine Guru

This 2023 vintage is drinking beautifully now, with bright citrus and tropical fruit at their peak. Over the next 12 months, the wine will maintain its freshness while developing slightly more integration between the fruit and mineral elements. By 2027, it will still be pleasant but the vibrant aromatics that define great Sauvignon Blanc will begin to fade. This isn't a wine for long cellaring - drink it while the fruit is singing and the acidity is bright.

Food Pairings

In Marlborough, this style of Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect match for the region's abundant seafood: green-lipped mussels steamed with white wine and herbs, fresh paua (abalone) fritters, or simply grilled snapper with lemon and native herbs. The wine's herbaceous qualities also complement lamb dishes with rosemary and garlic, a New Zealand classic. Local chefs often pair it with goat's cheese from nearby Canterbury, the wine's acidity cutting through the richness while its citrus notes echo the cheese's tang.

FAQs

What does this Sauvignon Blanc taste like?

Classic Marlborough character with zesty citrus, elderflower, and subtle passionfruit, but more refined and mineral-driven than most examples from the region.

When should I drink this wine?

Drink it now until 2028 while the fruit is at its most vibrant - Sauvignon Blanc is best enjoyed young and fresh.

What food pairs well with this wine?

Excellent with seafood, goat's cheese, fresh salads, or anything with herbs and citrus. The acidity makes it perfect for cutting through rich dishes.

How should I serve this wine?

Serve well-chilled at 8-10°C in a medium white wine glass. No need to decant - just open and enjoy immediately.

Is this worth cellaring?

No, drink this wine young while its aromatics are at their peak. Sauvignon Blanc doesn't improve with age and is best enjoyed within 2-3 years of vintage.

What makes Fromm different from other Marlborough producers?

Their Burgundian approach with organic farming, wild yeasts, and minimal intervention creates more sophisticated, textured wines than typical Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.
