In 2023, Guillaume Tardy began the harvest on September 11, seizing the warm, dry window before rain arrived. This vintage also marked a new chapter for the estate, with Tardy introducing a gentle destemmer designed to preserve the integrity of each grape without breaking the skins, resulting in wines with refined perfumes and softer tannins. The 2023s show a shift toward elegance and suppleness, moving away from previous vintages' emphasis on power.
"Luscious blackberry and spice aromas open up to a succulent, juicy palate with gentle tannins. The finish is long and spicy with a hint of mint, highlighting its fresh character. Aged in 30% new oak."
Our note
The grapes were picked at optimal ripeness with sugar levels between 12.5-13% and a pH of 3.4-3.5. Yields averaged 45-48 Hl/Ha, except for Échezeaux at 40 Hl/Ha. Bottling is expected in February. By contrast, 2024 yielded just 53 barrels (compared to 120 in 2023), as difficult growing conditions took a toll, although quality remains promising.
What the critics say:
"The 2023 Fixin La Place showed just a touch of reduction on the nose, but there is fine red fruit here. It has a floral style with just a hint of cassis in the background. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely detailed with fine definition. This is a laid-back Fixin, harmonious and easy-drinking in a positive way. This is clean and precise but giving."
"Enough reduction is present to push the fruit to the background but there is both good verve and freshness to the slightly more concentrated middle weight flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the supple, youthfully austere and refreshing finish. This could also be approached young or held for a few years to good effect."
