Finca Piedra Infinita sits in the Paraje Altamira subzone of the Uco Valley, where the soils are so calcareous that 'Supercal' isn't marketing but geology. In the search for the purest expression of the identity of Finca Piedra Infinita vineyard, Sebastián and his team reached this small plot of just 0.93 hectares. Planted at 1,100 meters in the highest part of the Tunuyán River’s alluvial fan, the vineyard reflects the unmistakable character of Paraje Altamira. Beneath the vines lies an endless bed of stones and massive granite rocks coated in calcareous material—a complexity found only at the very edge of the Andes.
Here, Malbec thrives on soils made up entirely of alluvial stones wrapped in chalky deposits, producing a wine that is as unique and unrepeatable as the site itself.
Zuccardi’s story began in the 1960s, when Alberto “Tito” Zuccardi planted vines not to make wine but to demonstrate an irrigation system he had devised. From that practical start, the family has built one of the Southern Hemisphere’s most admired and terroir-driven projects. Today, under Sebastián Zuccardi, the focus is entirely on place—expressing altitude, soil, and climate with honesty and clarity.
As Sebastián puts it: “We are not seeking to make the world’s best wines, but the deepest and purest expression of our place.” These are wines that can stand alongside the finest anywhere, yet they also act as a lens into the stunning, brutal, and breathtaking landscapes of the Uco Valley.

What the critics say:
"The somewhat bracing nature of the 2022 vintage, combined with the inherently slender profile of this parcel, could, on paper, result in a wine in which the structure overrides its textural depth, but I found that emphatically not to be the case with the 2022 Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal. Sharing the top slot in an undeniably impressive portfolio, this spectacular bottling is rendered with an additional level of transfixing purity coupled with a somewhat ineffable sense of stoicism and understatement that makes it simply one of the most compelling wines in Argentina. Relative to its counterparts from the same site, there is an elevated level of fine-boned, sculpted texture here, foregrounding the site's pure, unadulterated structure while still providing the perfect amount of stuffing to carry such a profile without veering into angularity. This is the very definition of a wine in which the variety and winemaking simply vanish, leaving only a profound sense of its origins rendered with nearly unparalleled transparency. In contrast to the incendiary nature of the Gravascal bottling, I find the gossamer, restrained profile here all the more alluring."
"Another stunning vintage of the 2022 Malbec Finca Piedra Infinita Supercal, from the 3,609-foot vineyard next to the winery, this wine is fermented and aged all in concrete for maximum purity and sense of place, delivering on all levels, from salinity to structure to sanguine herbaceousness. It’s all there, an exotic, evocative, and contemplative undertaking of tremendous power and refinement, balanced by a purity of red fruit, silky tannin, and buoyant underlying energy. This is an austere, medium-bodied wine that will hit a peak in 10 years and go another 20-25."
Piedra Infinita is named for its extraordinary calcareous soils — limestone-rich alluvial deposits that drain freely and stress the vines in ways that concentrate flavour without sacrificing freshness. The vineyard sits at around 1,100 metres altitude in Paraje Altamira, where the diurnal temperature swings are dramatic enough to preserve acidity that lower-lying Mendoza simply cannot match. That combination of altitude, calcium-heavy soils, and warm days with genuinely cool nights is what gives Supercal its distinctive mineral backbone — the 'cal' refers directly to the calcium carbonate that runs through the ground beneath the vines.
Paraje Altamira is one of Mendoza's most celebrated sub-appellations within the Uco Valley, recognised officially as a Geographical Indication and increasingly considered Argentina's most exciting address for structured, age-worthy Malbec. The soils here are notably more calcareous than other parts of the Uco Valley, and the altitude is high enough to produce wines with real freshness. Where Luján de Cuyo produces richer, more classically powerful Malbec, Altamira trades weight for precision — and Zuccardi have done more than almost anyone to put that argument to the world.
The 2022 growing season in Mendoza delivered exactly what the region's winemakers pray for: a long, steady ripening period without the dramatic weather swings that can make or break a vintage. After a relatively cool summer, harvest stretched well into April for many producers, giving grapes the luxury of time to develop flavour whilst retaining the natural acidity that keeps Mendoza's reds from becoming jammy fruit bombs. We find this patience shows in the wines themselves, which carry more tension and less obvious power than some of the region's blockbuster years.
What emerged from the cellars feels like Mendoza at its most refined rather than its most muscular. The Malbecs show deep colour and concentrated dark fruit, but there's a freshness running through them that makes them approachable young whilst promising excellent ageing potential. Cabernet Sauvignon particularly shines, with structured tannins that feel polished rather than austere, and the high-altitude Chardonnays display crystalline precision. Most 2022s are drinking beautifully now and should develop gracefully until 2035, though the best Malbecs will reward patience well beyond that.
