Adrianna Catena doesn't need much introduction to anyone who has been paying attention to Argentine wine over the last two decades. Fourth-generation member of the Catena family — the name that, more than any other, put Mendoza on the fine wine map — she has spent her career pushing the conversation further: into the high-altitude vineyards above 1,500 metres, into the ancient Malbec field blends her family has spent years quietly recovering, and into El Enemigo, the project she founded with Alejandro Vigil that has become one of South America's most exciting addresses. Most recently Adrianna and Alejandro, together with Gearóid Lane, have launched a new project in Gredos – El Reventón. Based around the purchase of one of the top single vineyards from Spain’s cult producer Commando G, El Reventón focuses on old vine Garnacha (some dating back to 1935) from slate-rich and granitic soils.
The Wine Advocate’s Luis Gutiérrez wrote “This is major news for an emerging region… having the Catena team arriving in Gredos is something big…This is a new name to keep on your radars, chaps!”
On 21st April we're sitting down with Adriana at Arros QD — one of London's finest rice and seafood restaurants — for a tasting of wines from across the El Enemigo and El Reventón ranges, with light bites from the kitchen.
